I just got back from a great trip to Africa. I actually went to  Botswana & Zimbabwe but flew in and out of Jo'burg and needed a place  to stay before and after the safari. Found the Orchard on 2nd on the  internet and took a chance. It was beautiful and such a pleasure to  stay there. Melanie (the owner) is very nice and helpful and even made  phone calls on my behalf which was so helpful since I didn't have a  phone. I was a little worried about security in Jo'burg and chose  Melville because of that. The Orchard is behind locked gates and only  a block from the main street (7th ave I think) which has restaurants,  bars and an atm (try the Lucky Bean restaurant or Picco Bella for a  great dinner). Mina cooks a delicious breakfast in the morning which  won't disappoint. All in all, it was a great place to stay- immaculately clean, beautiful, pool and deck and feels very homey. If  you want excursions around town, ask for Paula. She can also pick you  up and drop you off at the airport for the same price as a cab. All in all, I loved staying here and would definitely go back if I  ever go to Jo'burg again. Room Tip: If you're traveling with a friend, there's a room with two  double beds so you don't have to share. If you're a couple, ask for  the bedroom upstairs.
